CYCLICAL NATURE SERIES | No. 1-4 | 2025

The works in the 'Cyclical Nature' series are aesthetically inspired by my love of color theory and compositions. Conceptually, when crafting these works, I was curious about cyclical patterns and the ways in which they manifest and repeat themselves until we consciously and intentionally break them. This work speaks to the necessity of recognizing patterns both in ourselves and in others as a wayfinding mechanism for growth, grounding, and reconfiguring our approach to life through deepened self awareness.

'SPLIT NARRATIVES'

Life is funny in that it's a beautiful but inherently chaotic compilation of all the stories we tell ourselves. More often than not, though, we end up with bits and pieces of a narrative that we didn't even write. These narratives influence everything from how we view ourselves to the way that we perceive and relate to the world around us and other people. Luckily for us, we control the pen and can rewrite the story as many times as we need to…

'AS ABOVE, SO BELOW'

From the Emerald Tablet of Hermes which speaks to spiritual growth and transformation, the phrase 'As Above, So Below' speaks to the idea that what happens in a higher realm or plane of existence also happens in a lower realm.

'SUNNING'

I received an external, almost ethereal, nudge to craft this piece as a way to put my mind at ease as the snow piled up over Winter and I tried to maintain some sense of normalcy as we navigate the chaos of the current political landscape. 'SUNNING' is my attempt at capturing the essence of what it feels like to sit squarely out in the sun on a warm day coupled with watching the clouds drift by. Everything feels light and worries seem to subside.

'MIRAVALLE'

The prominent gestures in 'Miravalle' are inspired by House in Miravalle (Carlos Zapata Studio | Miravalle, Ecuador | 2002)

A few months back I was flipping through a book that I've had since around 2012 called The Sourcebook of Contemporary Architecture by Àlex Sánchez Vidiella. I hadn't picked this book up in years let alone flipped through it so I was surprised when I landed on this project and it stopped me in my tracks.

I was immediately struck because of its likeness to Zaha Hadid’s Vitra Fire Station (Zaha Hadid Architects | Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein, Germany | 1993) which I fell in love with while I was in school.

I became interested in the design philosophies of both firms which were similar in that they view architecture as art and describe much of their work as Sculptural Deconstructivism. Both firms also align with ideas around material harmony and, more specifically, both projects use material harmony to more intentionally imbed and integrate the structure into the existing surroundings, albeit in different ways.

'MULTIPLICITIES'

The term "Multiplicity" generally refers to the number of times a specific element, value, or condition occurs or repeats. I love this conceptually because, depending on the context, the meaning shifts, morphs, and mutates to meet the needs of things like mathematical roots, visual behaviors, or structural relationships in systems.

ITERATIONS SERIES | No.1-4 | 2023
This series explores themes of composition and crafting a visual language through mark making and color studies. This work is steeped in my curiosity surrounding iterative processes and how they can be used to refine and dissect ideas across a body of work. This curiosity took shape while I was studying architecture after I became fascinated by the process of building on to ideas by way of analyzing key conceptual components of a place, its context, and historical references.

'COUNTERFOIL'
This piece was partially inspired by some time I spent studying early 20-the century German collage artist Kurt Schwitters who was closely affiliated with the Dadaist and Constructivist art movements. His goal was to unify art and life by incorporating everyday objects into his work and this theme sparked my interest in the idea of counterfoil (receipts or stubs) as objects and records of things we obtain in daily life because of their tactile nature.
